March of Dimes

On October 21, 2002 I had a premature baby. I was so afraid the Obstetrician said she would only weigh 3-4 lbs and she wasn't passing the stress test on the Sonogram. She was also stuck in the breech position and very eager to come out. The plan was to get me to Labor and Delivery to monitor my lack of contractions but yet I was dilating. The 5 minute walk from the OB office to the L&D floor of the hospital I was already at 6 centimeters. The Dr Bailey wanted to do a External cephalic version. This scared me more than the possibility of a c-section. With this not being my first baby/pregnancy I kinda knew what to expect. Once I started passing blood clots and progressing more and just being in general discomfort they rushed me into surgery. The anesthesia didn't take so they gave me general anesthesia. She was 5 lbs 8 ounces by emergency C-section. At first her first Apgar was zero. I was still asleep at the time coming out of my haze was difficult. I was worried about her development, how much she weighed and all. I was VERY lucky there were no complications and her apgar perked up. This experience made me aware of March of Dimes and their foundation.

A few years later I started working for Factory Brand Shoes who is owned by parent company Brown Shoe/ Famous Footwear. and twice a year they have March of Dimes fundraisers. I have always been a big fan of World Wildlife Foundation, Epilepsy Foundation, Autism Speaks, and my FAVORITE is St Jude Research Hospital. Once I was handed that purple, blue, pink bracelet that said Saving Babies... my world changed forever. Not just because I myself had a preemie but I became involved in the program and offered donations of profit from my Close To My Heart Sales.

So if you haven't participated in a walk (walk for your health), or donated to a baby and research to prevent the loss of a baby and prematurity research. Here are some links you should look into. Next year I may walk for Skylar my daughter or even my friends Preemie Emily. All my little fighters are worth a mile!

Crap!

My weekend was hectic but fun! Some of the weekend was stressful and fast paced and others we tried to cram in as much as we could. Rick took a 4 day weekend to help me. I had a long two weeks of Skylar being home from school. She was injured at the bus stop and took a fall so it took her almost two weeks to get well enough to go back to school (plus there was Spring Break). We went to the last big Consignment Sale of the spring. Saturday we bought a swing set... shhh they don't know yet its an early Easter Present. I also got a new radio in my car since mine was shot. They couldn't take the factory radio out though so it doesn't look the best ugh. Its tough learning the new radio so we went driving to see how we could play with it. That's when we went into K-Mart which we only really shop at once or twice a year. Sunday was a road trip. We went to Gardendale for a friend's daughters Baptism. It was a cute little thing. Katie is so beautiful and happy. Rick even made a comment on how beautiful she is. Then as we always do when we go to the area we ate at Whataburger. Amy isn't a big  fan but we just HAVE to eat there. Its our favorite fast food restaurant and we don't have one here. I am glad she was a good sport and came along. Margaret (her 8 year old) and Skylar got along great. They seemed surprised she liked to talk (Margaret not Skylar)... anyone who knows Skylar knows that she talks so much you have to tell her when to be quiet LOL. Rick and I talked about going to Hoover, AL to the Lego Store but as we started puttering down I-20 we saw signs for the new Grand River Outlet Mall. We went there instead and it was fabulous! Monday I just couldn't get anything done so I didn't do my blog meme's ... bummer. I will try and plan better this week.

On Facebook I have started the 30 day Photo Challenge Military Style and the 30 day Song Challenge. I will share my song challenge then my Photo Challenge!

Enjoy!

My Weird Mood

Yeah I have mood swings I admit it. Some seem stronger than they were before I got pregnant I think maybe I am just a little easier effected by them.

I've been throwing a pity party and just kinda trying to figure things out for myself.

Firstly Donnie IMed me out of no where hte other night trying to be hateful because he's probably jealous and he said it was a deliberate attempt to replace Mackenzie. I mean I would love to have Mackenzie home but its just not in the cards right now. But if I was trying to replace Mackenzie I would have learned my lesson from Skylar.... and yes I heard it then too.... But for some reason his asinine stunt is bothering me.

I guess I feel so disconnected. My two closest female friends are in far off lands lol... and I can't share a happy moment with them except on the occasional telephone call. My family hasn't called me at all. Rick's reaction still isn't what I would like it to be but my expectations are two high and just hates shopping but Input would be nice when buying things for his son.l WHen I was pregnant with Mackenzie my oldest sister was pregnant at the same time (I gave birth 5/31 and she had Matthew 5/24) and my middle sister and I were real clsoe for a moment LOLOL. Then when I was pregnant with Skylar my middle sister was pregnant with the twins so we did everything together pretty much. (Her twins bday is 10/4 and Skylar's is 10/21) Now all my sisters are done with their babies *I think* and I am all lonesome LOL. Its just an adjustment pregnancy I guess I have no family around and my close Army friends have moved or are moving before the baby comes. Every Pregnancy is different and this is one difficult for me emotionally in a new way.

What are some experiences some of you have had being away from Family and friends? I am not new here but I don't have my little groupie of friends anymore lol.

Baby Names

Bella's Baby Names. So here are a few names I come up with. Bella is a name that's not my ACTUAL name just something I played with naming my first baby (Mackenzie) I have gotten out voted twice but as Danielle says I have been carrying it around in my pocket for nearly a decade. I had the name in my pocket before it was popular. I got it off of a TV show back in the day. Megan is a name I dreamed shortly before I found out I was preggers. Doane is a family name Rick wants to use.
William Doane
Megan Isabella
Megan Elizabeth (SIL's name)
Megan Marie (Sisters middle name)
Megan Grace (Rick's moms middle name and a nickname of mine)
Isabella Grace
Tristan Doane
Thomas Doane
Megan Catherine
Megan (first name) Jacqueline Corrine (either of these being a middle after my grandma)

New SIDS Link

LONDON (Reuters) - Researchers have pinpointed two common bacteria that may contribute to crib deaths, even when infants show no sign of tissue damage.

Post-mortem tests on more than 500 babies found high levels of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in babies who died for unexplained reasons, a team from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London said on Friday.

One explanation could be that the bacteria release deadly toxins, which damage the young heart, lungs or nervous system.

But bacterial growth may also be a secondary effect of other known risk factors like over-heating, parental smoking and lying a child on its stomach.

Sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI) is a leading cause of death in babies under a year old, yet its root cause remains a mystery. Healthy looking infants can often die in less than an hour.

The latest findings in the Lancet medical journal suggest underlying infection could be an important component.

"You've got to be very careful how you interpret this data," Nigel Klein, one of the researchers, said in an interview.

"But we did find an increased number of bacteria grown from particularly the lungs and spleen in infants who died unexpectedly without a known cause."

Cases of S. aureus and E. coli were significantly more frequent in the group of babies whose death could not be explained than in those who died of non-infective explained causes, such as congenital abnormalities.

Both S. aureus and E. coli are classed as "group 2 pathogens," which are known to cause septicaemia without obvious damage to tissues in the body.

Alan Craft, professor of child health at the University of Newcastle, said the findings were important but there might not be a simple answer.

"The bacteria found are ones which are in all of our bodies most of the time and there is nothing that can be done to avoid them," Craft said.

So whould it help if we gave babies prone to SIDS a low dose of Antibiotic? I mean like those in families where it happens more than once or those who have aptnea or something? I am not an advocate for giving children antibiotics or over medicating for reasons they don't need to be medicated but its better to have a sickly child than a dead child. Also did you know that pacifers prevent SIDS as well?
