Wednesday November 19, 2014: No, seriously. I saw it on the news.

People that follow one of my Facebook profiles I do post news links quite a bit.. they could be silly, gruesome, and weird. Hell I even posted the link of Kim Karatrashian trying to break the internet when it obviously didn't break it just made my eyes see something that can't be unseen and completely unnecessary. At least a few times a week I post a link about news in my local news with the phrase-- we gotta hit our weird quota. You remember that guy, Hide yo kids- hide yo wife guy? Yeah that guy... that's the town closest to me err we are like a suburb of that town. We just seem to get a bunch of odd ducks in this town. I am from Los Angeles and Atlanta before moving here and I just don't recall the magnitude of weird that we have. Perhaps there was so much odd stuff there that it would be too much to report on? There has been reports like Antoine Dodson's 5 minutes of fame... oh but his story just keeps getting better!
There is the guy who is building a fence around his beautiful old house to protect HIMSELF while he repairs that beautiful old house. The city said wrong fence its a hazard (frankly an eye source and it doesn't do the beautiful house justice) because he wants to build it a fortress. So then he said fine I will sell the house off shingle by shingle- heartbreaking. My question to the crazy ole coot that owns the house if you fear for your safety enough to not repair the house 1) how are you building the fence? 2) How do you plan on pulling the shingles off the roof? Its an historic house in the bad part of town so its not profitable to save according to the city's historical society. Its truly my favorite house here. Just two crazy coots that own it!

Then of course the pictures that are occasionally posted by someone with their recent hunting trophy tied to the front of their truck while going through drive thru at Taco Bell. The person driving around town with a lazy boy in the back just encase someone needs tail gate seating maybe? You don't understand these people and their SEC. This place has news for the weird!

Random Spatterings About Attachment Parenting

I don't know about you but I have read up on Attachment Parenting since right after I had my first born. I am not considered a crunchy mama but I LIKE crunchy mama's and fully respect them for their discipline and skills.
I read this article today on Celebrity Mayim Bialik. Its amazing that a working mother still feels so strongly about following Attachment Parenting practices. No one said you have to follow all the guidelines to be an AP mommy but some are such a beautiful wonderful thing. I look forward to reading more about her parenting and her blog on Todaymoms.com

I have a friend Brittany who writes her own blog (I wont' credit her unless she says its okay) but she is a good Crunchy Mama that has all the right stuff. She is studying now to become a Doula so other people might be able to achieve their dreams of this ONE aspect of Attachment parenting. Reading her blogs about Natural Child Birthing at home made me think about my own experiences. I don't feel secure enough to have a baby at home because of my history but I believe if you have a clean bill of health embrace God's given gift of your natural ability to birth your child without strings.. Who wants to be a puppet?
I did have my first two children in a state where home births are against the law or frowned upon but Midwives are allowed. Here in Alabama both are illegal. Midwives or Medwives for that matter. Now I don't have the facts but I am willing to be more OB's have c-sections here than natural unmedical assisted deliveries. How many mothers are offered pitocin or some other inducing technique? It just sounds horrible to me to intervene unless medically necessary. My first born was induced (even for just a few minutes), and I had IV Drugs as well as an Epidural but I did have him vaginally. So I am not against it but the support should be there. The knowledge should be there. I know of someone who has had three children with no epidural but she wasnt  encouraged to not induce and try more natural techniques. Am I the only one that see's a disconnect there? So I give props to people like Mayim Bialik and Ricki Lake.

I opened a people magazine and there was a small tid bit about a picture of a celebrity mom breastfeeding in a previous issue. Miranda Kerr was pictured breast feeding her infant son Flynn in the Feb 28, 2011 issue of People. Someone emailed the editors stating," This picture is disrespectful to all those who believe in a woman's right to breast-feed but don't want to see it!" another said "This crosses tehe line and makes mother/child bonding provocative." -- In response to those two say WHAT? A third person wrote "way to go, Miranda Kerr, for showing that breast-feeding is not only beautiful, but natural."
Here is another article with the picture here .
Again I have formula fed my children but I wouldn't do it again unless I had to. Why did I formula feed? Because I didn't have the support around me that I needed to be successful at it. I didn't educate myself ENOUGH on the how to's and actually when I decided to wean William I am surprised I weaned him so fast (both I was unemotional about it for the most part and he took to his bottle and cup) I am so tired of Formula Feeding being the norm but not because of the lack of medical necessity. They choose to Formula Feed because its their choice.. okay....
That's just not how I roll LOL.. I would have given anything to be able to breast-feed Skylar & Mackenzie longer.
Its often a source of topic in some of the groups I am in. Should everyone have to TRY to breast-feed? Why is it even a topic? Why should I person have to walk when we have really cool ways of getting around? Do you honestly want your butt kicked by someone who doesn't have the ability? Ugh.

Another topic I saw once was Co-Sleeping. The poster says it ruins marriages because you can't possibly have the same amount of intimacy. I think people especially parents need to get their head out of their bum... life isn't about adults anymore... the world now revolves around a mini helpless person. Babies are a gift.
I co-slept with all three of my children till the time was right for them to go to their own beds.. each at a different time in their first two years of life. It hasn't even been a source of discussion between Rick and I lol.

I don't get why AP is such a taboo. Its common sense parenting.

Oh and for the record William my youngest who is almost 19 months old he is in love with breasts. He blows kisses at the bra's in the store and he looks down my shirt at times to make sure his Momma Honey is still there but he never wants to nurse lol. I don't think its perverted or sick I think its cute. Its been a source of love and nourishment for him why shouldn't he remember them so fondly.

8 year olds shaking their money makers? say what?

What is your opinion? Mine is..
I think that Mother has lost her mind. Taken out of context. NOTHING you do is private anymore blame it on technology. I don't give dirty old men the benefit in getting off on my daughter that way. Whether it be a Bikini at the beach or something like this. My daughter took dance and you don't need to be showing that much skin to show the techincal lines of your body. Umbrella from Rhianna can be a sensual song same as Single Ladies that doesnt make it relavant or not relievent. The moves of the girls were mimicing those of Beyonce. So it was okay but it could have been more original. What happened to CUTE little girls? Who would rather have their little girl grow up too fast like Jon Benet?

My Take on the Vaccine debate

I have been reading "movements" and information from all types of studies on both sides of the debate.
It all boils down to WE DON'T KNOW!
We don't know if in a decade or two decades they will find something wrong with the vaccines.
We don't know if we will suddenly find ourselves sick from a vaccine.
We don't really know what causes Autism we barely have an isolated gene to figure it out!

BUT what I do know is GOD DON'T MAKE JUNK!
He gave us an immune system and we are supposed to be able to fight diseases. If you get the Chicken Pox Vaccine or the various Influenza vaccines... YOU CAN STILL GET IT!
Not to mention the Chicken Pox one might give you shingles as an adult which is more deadly than it is to children. So would you rather your child have Chicken Pox? I have had it several times I am alive. Ok its not so bad! I swear.
I don't get and I don't give my kids the Infuenza Vaccine or the H1N1 vaccine because its okay to have the flu. Build your immune system. Take Vitamin C. Now for those who have weakened immune systems or Asthma then yes! I think it becomes a personal choice for that particular person and their family.

My personal choice to carefully Vaccinate my children. What do I mean? When William goes in for his 6 month shots, he is actually closer to 9 months. Why is this important? Because he's heavier and hopefully better able to tolerate 5 vaccines. We have a higher risk of Autism Spectrum Disorder in my house. I know they don't believe that Vaccines are to blame. But yet the US government has settled out of court with some people on the matter. Do we ReALLY know? They have barely isolated the gene that is responsible for Autism. They THINK it may be genetic, or could be genetic. Since we don't know the cause I basically say you know what we don't know! So why just assume to FDA knows best? Do your own research, make your own opinions. Don't let people bully you into vaccinating or not vaccinating. You can get waivers (I think it may be harder in the Military.)

Some vaccines do have harmful perservatives in it!

Speaking of the Military. I know when the H1N1 crap was so scary (when is the last time you heard of that?) someone said well if they say its okay it must be okay. Wake up and smell the coffee! The Military has been poisoning soldiers for years. Agent Orange? They think Gulf War Syndrome was caused by Chemicals in the air. But face it the Military doesn't like to own up to mistakes. They ignore any sign of bad PR.

My final point is this. Doctors are just well educated humans, Scientists can you guess it? Yes Well eduucated humans. Politicians... well LOL they are human too! As a parent or an adult you have to make your own educated decisions concerning your family and yourself. If doctor says this is the only treatment then I would be the one to research it till I could tell the doctor what my findings are. Second guess them! Question them! Don't just take their word. This goes with vaccines too. Do the research if the risks out weight the benefits then second guess it. Trust your instincts. Believe in your own body and its ability to fight off disease.
oh and yes feel free to open a discussion in my comments, but be respectful...
I am willing to see your side of the studies too.

No 8 on Forbes List

Huntsville metro area takes the No. 8 spot on Forbes list

By Marian Accardi

April 15, 2010, 4:48PM

HUNTSVILLE -- There's another top 10 ranking for Huntsville.

The metro area is ranked No. 8 among 200 metro areas in the country in Forbes magazine's Best Places for Business and Careers.

In the ranking, the Huntsville metro area - with a population of 406,000 - captured second place in job growth projected (based on three-year annualized figures) and ranked 37th among the 200 largest U.S. metros in educational attainment. It was No. 112 in the cost of doing business, an index based on the cost of labor, energy, taxes and office space.

"These national rankings and recognitions have benefited us so much in economic development efforts" in encouraging businesses to locate here and existing businesses to grow here, said Brian Hilson, the president and CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. "We found these rankings are equally helpful in attracting talent and growing our workforce.

"People who are candidates for jobs here are motivated when they see an independent ranking," said Hilson, especially when the ranking is made by a major publication like Forbes. "It just adds to the credibility of our location."

"We're very, very fortunate that our community is not feeling the effects (of the economic downturn) as much as other cities," said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, who's attending the Army Aviation Association of America's 2010 conference in Fort Worth. "This (ranking) validates that our community is moving forward."

Huntsville was ranked No. 15 in 2009.

Forbes' 12th annual ranking looked at the 200 largest metro areas, which range in size from the New York City metro with 11.7 million people to Merced, Calif., with 245,000 residents. It ranked areas on 12 factors, including costs (business and living), job growth (past and projected), income growth, educational attainment and projected economic growth. The study also considered quality-of-life issues like crime, cultural and recreational opportunities and net migration patterns and examined the percentage of subprime mortgages over a three-year stretch and the number of highly ranked four-year colleges in the area.

Other Alabama cities and their 2010 rankings are: Montgomery, 53; Mobile, 62; and Birmingham, 78.

Auburn is No. 6 on the top 25 Best Small Metros list.

The top of this year's list, according to Forbes.com, includes cities in "flyover" states, areas with reasonable business costs, strong economic outlooks and a solid quality of life.

The No. 1 spot goes to Des Moines, Iowa, which was in seventh place last year. Iowa's capital has 562,000 people in the metro area and features business costs 15 percent below the national average. It has an educated labor supply as 33 percent of adults have college degrees (ranking 46th among the 200 largest metros) and 92 percent have high school diplomas.

Last year's winner, Raleigh, N.C., dropped to third this year.

US Mother Ships Adopted Boy Back to Russia

as someone who was pretty much all but legally adopted as well as a mother of a child that is adopted. This angers me. I realize that most of these children have FAS but does that mean they don't need love? What if their own child had a condition.

What do you think of this mother? My first thought is she shouldn't be able to adopt again?

Good friends and Tragedy.

My fellow Army Wife friend Crystal has a darling neighbor she's been bugging me to meet because we are both pregnant and both having boys. We also have little girls. Heather's daughters name is Maggie and she is four and a half or five. Heather's husband is deployed at hte moment and we all know what I think of Pregnant Army Wives while their husband's are gone. Crystal's husband is doing a hardship tour in Korea as well. She has a teenage son and two teenage  and preteen age step daughters. Crystal being the sweetheart she is threw me my baby shower. Both ladies have had a tough time recently with medical problems too. So we planned a lunch. Crystals like yeah come over but I need to go grocery shopping lol. I was like oh well we can order a pizza?  Then I went to the commissary and I am like wait I can just bring lunch so I made Chicken Salad and took stuff my family would never eat. So I had fun preparing and serving lunch and Skylar loved Maggie. I heard this morning of Farrah Fawcett had passed away and I quickly asked did she get a chance to marry her long time love? The answer was no. Rick dropped me off at Crystal's for lunch and went to take his mid term. Then he came back to get me. I needed to go home and get some clothes out of the garage I knew Maggie could wear or would wear I wanted to get rid of anyways. I had Crystal's card for the digital camera. I took Rick back to work and then went back to Crystals to watch the girls and giggle. It was a good time and I miss time with friends at times. I had to leave nearly at  four to pick up James at work but he walked home early. So I went by ACS for Heather and then I dropped by Rick's work to just say hello but ended up staying until he locked up the office. We came home started dinner and the Microwave blew. So I went to my neighbor to finish microwaving my dinner and they were all gathered around the TV freaking out. It was CNN and TMZ talking about Michael Jackson's death. The legend is still true they die in three's.

Titanic

I've loved the Titanic since I saw the 1997 movie in the Theater and was waltzing in the aisles as they played my heart will go on. Matter of fact I have been mini obsessed with it. As I have the same with Phantom of the Opera and Star Wars... just a few things my first husband did leave me. Yesterday was the anniversary of the launch of the Titanic. I woke up Sunday morning to Rick watching A Night to Remember which is based mostly on fact of stories that were told from the night one of the most beautiful ships hit an iceberg. So that got us talking about the most famous of the crew. I started going back through the history and the book A Night to Remember which is on my night stand. We came to the articles about Millvina who was the last known survivor of the Titanic. She was either 9 weeks old or 12 weeks old when the ship sank according to reports. This morning Rick told me Millvina Dean died last night on the Anniversary of the launch. It was weird we discussed her and was reading stuff about the Titanic. Then she passed away. Okay so I am seriously a history NERD... I know that Ms. Dean's brother died 80 years after the sinking of the titanic he too was a survivor of the ship's catastrophy! I just thought that it was very interesting. If you take the time to read some of the history of the titanic and learn just about the famous people on the ship its very cool!

End of Stop Loss ANNOUNCED!

End to Stop Loss Announced

The Department of Defense announced today a comprehensive plan to eliminate the current use of Stop Loss, while retaining the authority for future use under extraordinary circumstances. This is an important step along the path in adapting the Army into an expeditionary force.

The Army Reserve and Army National Guard will mobilize units without employing Stop Loss beginning in August and September 2009, respectively. The Regular (active duty) Army will deploy its first unit without Stop Loss by January 2010.

For soldiers Stop Lossed during fiscal 2009, the department will provide a monthly payment of $500. Until the department is able to eliminate Stop Loss altogether, this payment will serve as an interim measure to help mitigate its effects.

"Stop Loss disrupts the plans of those who have served their intended obligation. As such, it is employed only when necessary to ensure minimal staffing in deploying units, when needed to ensure safe and effective unit performance," said Bill Carr, deputy under secretary of defense for military personnel policy. "It is more easily rationalized in the early stages of conflict when events are most dynamic; but tempo changes in this war have frustrated our efforts to end it altogether.

"

The department intends to provide Stop Loss Special Pay to eligible service members until the point of separation or retirement, to include that time spent on active duty in recovery following redeployment. Stop Loss Special Pay will begin on the date of implementation, and will take effect for those impacted on or after Oct. 1, 2008.

Stop Loss Special Pay implements the authority granted by Section 8116 of the "Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriation Act, 2009." The appropriation is available to secretaries of the military departments only to provide Special Pay during fiscal 2009.

Tragedy for the Chapman Family

My heart is heavy right now as I've learned of the death of Steven Curtis Chapman's daughter, Maria. It is especially tragic as their own son was involved in the accident, backing their vehicle out of the family driveway. He will need our utmost prayers.

"At approximately 5pm on the afternoon of Wednesday May 21st, Maria Sue Chapman, 5 years old and the youngest daughter to Steven and Mary Beth Chapman was struck in the driveway of the Chapman home in Franklin, TN. Maria was rushed to Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital in Nashville, transported by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there. Maria is one of the close knit family’s six children and one of their three adopted daughters. "

I'm sure many of you are already aware of this tragic accident. But for a news article, click here.
To visit the Chapman site click here.
A special condolences blog is set up here for people to express their sympathies. It has a precious video clip of Maria and her daddy jamming at the kitchen sink filmed only two months ago.
Please pray for this dear family who loves the Lord passionately and who have been strong advocates for adoption. Josh and I both have enjoyed Mr. Chapman's music over the years, especially during our courtship years. His song (click link for music video and great testimony on parenting), Cinderella, is especially poignant in light of this most sad event.

Auctions on eBay: A Dying Breed

By Catherine Holahan Tue Jun 3, 8:08 AM ET

Bruce Hershenson, who auctions vintage posters online, is hanging up his eBay gavel. For almost a decade, Hershenson's business epitomized the e-commerce that made eBay (NasdaqGS:EBAY - News) famous. He sold rare, collectible, sometimes kitschy memorabilia in online auctions that had a starting bid of 99%. But as the business of buying and selling over the Internet has matured, the thrill and novelty of auctions have given way to the convenience of one-click purchases. Hershenson will hold his last eBay auction June 3. "The auctions are nothing like what they once were," he says. "They won't ever come back." if Auctions were once a pillar of e-commerce. People didn't simply shop on eBay. They hunted, they fought, they sweated, they won. These days, consumers are less enamored of the hassle of auctions, preferring to buy stuff quickly at a fixed price. Hershenson is emblematic of the legions of small business people who built their livelihoods on eBay but -- like eBay itself -- are having to rethink their whole approach to online sales.

Sales at Amazon.com (NasdaqGS:AMZN - News), the leader in online sales of fixed-price goods, rose 37% in the first quarter of 2008. At eBay, where auctions make up 58% of the site's sales, revenue rose 14%. "If I really want something I'm not going to goof around (in auctions) for a small savings," says Dave Dribin, a 34-year-old Chicago resident who used to bid on eBay items, but now only buys retail.

E-Commerce Continues to Evolve

Executives at eBay have gotten the message. Since taking the helm in March, eBay Chief Executive John Donahoe has made it clear that fixed-priced items are key to future growth. EBay's "Buy It Now" business, where shoppers can purchase items at a set price even when the merchandise is also listed in an auction, makes up 42% of all goods sold on eBay. It's growing at an annual 22% pace, the fastest among eBay's shopping businesses. "As (Web) search has developed, you can get a great deal in a fixed-price format," Donahoe said in an Apr. 16 interview after his first earnings call as eBay's top executive. "We are going to let our buyers choose." Donahoe did not comment for this story.

At the current pace, this may be the first year that eBay generates more revenue from fixed-price sales than from auctions, analysts say. "The bloom is well off the rose with regard to the online-auction thing," says Tim Boyd, an analyst with American Technology Research. "Auctions are losing a ton of share, and fixed price has been gaining pretty steadily."

To hasten the growth, Donahoe is spearheading changes to make eBay more friendly to users who favor one-click shopping. While former CEO Meg Whitman ended her tenure amid an ad campaign that championed auctions, urging consumers to "Shop Victoriously," Donahoe has taken steps to increase fixed-price inventory. In May, eBay announced a partnership with Buy.com to sell a large swath of the retailer's inventory for set prices. "EBay has significantly de-emphasized dynamic-priced items in favor of fixed-price listings in the last six months," says Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Derek Brown.

EBay Fees Favor Fixed Prices

Perhaps the biggest example of eBay's new fixed-price focus is the new fee structure, announced in January. The changes gave breaks to many large vendors who sell fixed-priced goods on the site, while hiking fees for many eBay users who sell using a traditional auction structure (BusinessWeek.com, 1/29/08).

EBay executives say auctions will always have a place on the site. In the future, the company plans to alter fees so that auction sellers don't feel so pinched, though executives have not provided details. The company also intends to showcase additional features that meld auctions and fixed-price listings during and after the annual eBay Live event, to be held this year in Chicago, June 19-21. One possible new feature is a split screen that shows an auction on one side and the Buy It Now price on the other. "Auction-style listings are what keeps the site unique, but fixed price is growing much faster," says eBay spokesman Usher Lieberman.

What happened to auctions? Not only do shoppers want convenience, they're also looking for value. And the proliferation of pricing information online has made it easier for consumers to bargain-hunt and lessened the need to risk overbidding in an auction. Hershenson recalls when a new $40 toaster could fetch $80 on eBay, thanks to a bidding frenzy. Now, a buyer can figure out the retail price with a few mouse clicks. A study earlier this year by the Pew Internet and American Life Project found that 81% of Internet users research products online before buying. "People have a lot of information at their disposal and that sets a reserve price of what they are willing to pay," says John Horrigan, an associate director at Pew. "It makes sense for eBay to set prices to appeal to that."

Auctioneers Up in Arms

But as eBay aligns its focus with the majority of buyers, sellers like Hershenson lose out. When he first heard of the fee hike, at a seller meeting in Washington with eBay management, Hershenson says he stood up and complained. "I said 'I am exactly the kind of seller who built eBay and brings people to eBay on a daily basis. And it seems to me your changes are hitting me hardest,'" he says, adding that his annual fees would have jumped from $120,000 to nearly $180,000.

Rather than pay the fee hike, Hershenson decided to move his business onto his own Web site, eMoviePoster.com. He auctions 1,000 to 1,500 items on his own site every Tuesday and Thursday. Because Hershenson's merchandise is popular among a specific set of collectors, he feels confident that his customers will follow him and says that most already have. He believes he can attract others with some well-placed ads, purchased with what he saved for not paying the higher fees on eBay.

Not all eBay sellers have the luxury of branching out on their own or moving to a third-party site. When it comes to auctions, eBay is one of the few games in town. Even though growth is slowing in eBay's auction business, the site has nearly 90 million active users. Other auction sites such as Ubid.com (ubhi.ob.OB) have far fewer visitors. Ten-year-old Ubid had 181,000 active bidders in the first quarter, according to its quarterly report.

EBay sellers organized a weeklong sales boycott in February protesting the changes announced in January. "Everybody is mad because they feel that this company got built on them, and when eBay felt that they no longer needed them, they tried to get rid of them," says Maggie Dressler, an eBay seller who has auctioned antique trains and toys on the site since 2001. "It is deplorable."

Many auctioneers may have no choice but to close shop, says Hershenson, adding, "Their latest changes will have the result of ending auctions as we know it on eBay."

Ban on Sex for Soldiers in Afghanistan Lifted ... Sort Of

Ban on Sex for Soldiers in Afghanistan Lifted ... Sort Of

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- Single soldiers and civilians working for the U.S. military in Afghanistan can now have sex legally. Sort of.

A new order signed by Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Schloesser, commander of Combined Joint Task Force-101, has lifted a ban on sexual relations between unmarried men and women in the combat zone.

Poll: Sex in a War Zone Okay?

General Order No. 1 outlines a number of prohibited activities and standards of conduct for U.S. troops and civilians working for the military in Afghanistan. Previously, under the regulation, sexual relations and "intimate behavior" between men and women not married to each other were a strict no-no. The regulation also barred members of the opposite sex from going into each other's living quarters unless they were married to each other.

To find more deployment news and resources, visit The Deployment Center.

But the latest version of General Order No. 1 for Afghanistan, which Schloesser signed April 19, eases those restrictions.

The new regulation warns that sex in a combat zone "can have an adverse impact on unit cohesion, morale, good order and discipline."

But sexual relations and physical intimacy between men and women not married to each other are no longer banned outright. They're only "highly discouraged," and that's as long as they're "not otherwise prohibited" by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, according to the new order.

Single men and women can now also visit each other's living quarters, as long as everyone else who lives there agrees, and as long as visitors of the opposite sex remain in the open "and not behind closed doors, partitions or other isolated or segregated areas," according to the new regulation.

Unmarried men and women who are alone together in living quarters must leave the door open, according to the new policy.

Men and women "will not cohabit with, reside or sleep with members of the opposite gender in living spaces of any kind," unless they are married or if it's necessary for military reasons, the new policy states.

A cursory reading of the order would seem to suggest that unmarried men and women could have sex in their living quarters, as long as all other persons who live there agree, or if they left the door open, if they were otherwise alone. But that's not the case, said Lt. Col. Rumi Nielson-Green, a spokeswoman for Regional Command East and Combined Joint Task Force-101.

"Sex in both scenarios … would be a chargeable offense under the UCMJ," Nielson-Green said, referring to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, in an e-mail to Stars and Stripes.

Nielson-Green said the policy change was "not significant on a practical level" since it simply aligns General Order No. 1 in Afghanistan with similar policies in the region. Neither U.S. Central Command, which oversees U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, nor Multi-National Forces-Iraq bar sexual relations between unmarried men and women in their version of the order, she said.

"The expectation is that troops should behave professionally and responsibly at all times," Nielson-Green said, adding that while the new regulation does not condone sex, it "does recognize that such behaviors happen, and if they result in any chargeable offenses, then appropriate actions will be pursued."

"The bottom line is that the troops are responsible for their own behavior," Nielson-Green said. She declined to "speculate" on the conditions under which soldiers could engage in legal sexual behavior.

The UCMJ contains several provisions under which sexual relations are prohibited between men and women. For instance, married persons cannot engage legally in sex with anyone other than their spouse, or they can be prosecuted for adultery. Sexual relations between subordinates and higher-ranking personnel are prohibited within the same chain of command. Sexual relations between officers and enlisted personnel are generally prohibited as well. Homosexual relations are completely prohibited under the code.

Nielson-Green said the new policy does allow commanders to make the provision on sex more restrictive, as long as they have approval from the CJTF-101 commander.

In eastern Afghanistan, the 173rd Airborne Brigade, which is nearing the end of its 15-month deployment, won approval to stick with the old policy that bans sexual relations between unmarried soldiers.

Maj. Will Helixon, the brigade judge advocate, said the issue was basically one of fairness.

"After we've treated the soldiers this way for a year, it's not really right to change," said Helixon said. "That's the bottom line."

According to Helixon's staff, 28 soldiers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade have been punished for having sex in Afghanistan or for violating the no-entry rule in the past year. Those punishments ranged from letters of reprimand to field-grade Article 15s.

At Forward Operating Base Fenty, near Jalalabad, the reaction of soldiers to the lifting of the sex ban was mixed. Some soldiers declined to comment. Others said they were married, so the change would not affect them. Some thought it simply create more problems. "I think it's a bad idea," said Pfc. Shane Inman, 30, of Fort Dodge, Iowa. "I think there's going to be a lot more pregnancies going around. Not that there already isn't. But at least they won't get in trouble for it."

LONDON (Reuters) - Researchers have pinpointed two common bacteria that may contribute to crib deaths, even when infants show no sign of tissue damage.

Post-mortem tests on more than 500 babies found high levels of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in babies who died for unexplained reasons, a team from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London said on Friday.

One explanation could be that the bacteria release deadly toxins, which damage the young heart, lungs or nervous system.

But bacterial growth may also be a secondary effect of other known risk factors like over-heating, parental smoking and lying a child on its stomach.

Sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI) is a leading cause of death in babies under a year old, yet its root cause remains a mystery. Healthy looking infants can often die in less than an hour.

The latest findings in the Lancet medical journal suggest underlying infection could be an important component.

"You've got to be very careful how you interpret this data," Nigel Klein, one of the researchers, said in an interview.

"But we did find an increased number of bacteria grown from particularly the lungs and spleen in infants who died unexpectedly without a known cause."

Cases of S. aureus and E. coli were significantly more frequent in the group of babies whose death could not be explained than in those who died of non-infective explained causes, such as congenital abnormalities.

Both S. aureus and E. coli are classed as "group 2 pathogens," which are known to cause septicaemia without obvious damage to tissues in the body.

Alan Craft, professor of child health at the University of Newcastle, said the findings were important but there might not be a simple answer.

"The bacteria found are ones which are in all of our bodies most of the time and there is nothing that can be done to avoid them," Craft said.

So whould it help if we gave babies prone to SIDS a low dose of Antibiotic? I mean like those in families where it happens more than once or those who have aptnea or something? I am not an advocate for giving children antibiotics or over medicating for reasons they don't need to be medicated but its better to have a sickly child than a dead child. Also did you know that pacifers prevent SIDS as well?

Homeschool Families Call for Boycott of Subway Restaurants

Homeschooling parents across the United States are now crying "Boycott" when it comes to Subway after the popular restaurant chain chose to exclude homeschooled students from entering their Subway Fresh Fit for Kids writing contest.

The contest, which you can view the details of here, invites students to write a story based upon one of four story starters, and encourages kids to be creative, while even encouraging parents to help their children write the story. Prizes for the contest included one Grand Prize winner who will receive $5,000 worth of athletic equipment for their school, a Scholastic Gift Basket for their home, a $100 Subway gift card, and the chance to have their story published on Subway's website as well as in Scholastic's Parent & Child Magazine. Six additional runners up will also receive a Scholastic Gift Basket and a $50 Subway gift card. In addition to the seven top prizes each entry that includes a Subway receipt store number will receive a free Scholastic book.

The homeschool community is a tight knit arena in which news travels fast. Forums, blogs, and email lists of homeschool parents have been a buzz all weekend over the exclusion with many heated discussions taking place. The number of parents choosing to homeschool their children is growing each year, and homeschooled students compete with public schooled children in many contests through out the school year. In 2007 the winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee was Evan O'Dorney a homeschool student who resides in Danville, California.

Many homeschooling parents understand that the reason for the snub may be the fact that the grand prize includes $5,000 worth of athletic equipment but they believe that this could have been gotten around by requiring homeschool families to donate the equipment to a park or charity of their choice, their homeschool association or co-op, or to a church.
Not only are parents who homeschool their children upset that they are not allowed to participate in the contest but they have pointed out the appalling typos that can be found in the writing contest rules. The writer of the copy misspelled United States by spelling it the "Untied States" and gift basket was misspelled "gift bakset".

While homeschooled parents across the web cry for a boycott and a public apology from Subway we can only wait to see if the proposed boycott will make a difference, and whether or not Subway can recover from this disastrous PR debacle.

Better Sex Diet

Now my sex life is great when he's home and even as he is thousands of miles away. They do have modern conviences that we take advantage of LOL.
But perhaps I need a better sex diet to match his Libdio.

Mood enhancers
Foods like oysters really can ignite passion in the bedroom. How? They're good for your heart. And what's good for your heart is good for your libido, too. After all, if your arteries are clogged, getting blood to flow down south can be problematic, says Bonnie Dix, M.A., R.D., of the American Dietetic Association. Here are some more romance-enhancing wonders:

Oysters **ONE WORD YUCK THIS GA GIRL AND MY SOLDIER WON'T EAT THEM**
Since the tale of Aphrodite emerging from the sea on an oyster shell, this sexy shellfish has been hailed as an aphrodisiac. Oysters and other fatty fish such as salmon, scallops and sardines are loaded with healthful monounsaturated fats called Omega 3s. And they carry a hefty dose of testosterone-boosting zinc.

Champagne
So you've already heard the buzz that a daily glass of wine raises good cholesterol and helps prevent arteries from clogging. But alcohol, especially champagne, can also improve your health and your sex life. Like many mind altering substances, a glass or two of champagne will lower inhibitions and help ease any couple into an amorous mood.
*Ok I don't need that much help getting in bed with my hubby I am willing just not a HORNY TOAD lol

Pine Nuts
Pine nuts have more protein than any other nut. Besides providing protein to help increase stamina, pine nuts are heavy in healthful monosaturated fats, zinc and other nutrients that are linked with increased sexual desire. Sexier than your average peanut, pine nuts are often present on many fine-dining menus.

Artichoke
This nutrient-dense, peculiar plant was once considered such a powerful aphrodisac that women were banned from eating it. According to Martha Hopkins, co-author of 'Inter-Courses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook,' part of the appeal of the artichoke may be that you have to work hard to "get past the spiked leaves to get to the velvety-smooth heart."

Spices
The right spices not only heat things up on the tongue, but also in the bedroom. "Chili pepper and ginger help improve circulation," says Dix, "and hot spices like cayenne, curry and cumin help warm the body." The intoxicating aromas of exotic spices help infuse romance into the atmosphere.

Avacodo
**Guacamole here I come!
According to the Doctrine of Signatures, food aids the part of the body it resembles. In fact, the Aztecs valued the avocado as an aphrodisiac and named it ahuacale or testicle because they grow in pairs. Though science can neither confirm nor deny that this fruit will get your fire going, it will give you fuel in the form of healthy fats, protein and potassium.

Chocolate
Don't skip dessert: Eating chocolate causes the release of mood-boosting, stress-reducing serotonin. The sweet stuff also causes a release of phenylethylamine, which causes changes in blood pressure and blood-sugar levels leading to feelings of excitement. Just make sure to choose antioxidant-rich dark chocolate.
** Do I really have to? hehe

Dealing with Toxic Relationships

This is DEFINATELY on my mind
This was on AOL's front page today

Someone is dragging you down so much that you feel sapped and sick. You're anxious about the relationship and no longer get excited to see this person who has more ups and downs than a roller coaster. Sound familiar? Although toxic relationships can take on many different forms, those are the main characteristics, and if you're involved in one, you need to address it before it takes you down completely, says Nancy O'Reilly, Psy.D., clinical psychologist in Springfield, Mo., and founder of WomenSpeak.com, a resource Web site to assist women with their health, financial, relationship and aging concerns. Here's how to deal with eight common problem relationships.
Dr. Do Little
Write down the problems you have with your doctor and discuss them during your appointment. If your doctor doesn't listen and ignores your needs, be prepared to make a change. Sometimes, though, a wake-up call can get this person back on track; burnout is common for health care providers, and your doctor may be unaware of his or her unprofessional manners.
Friend or Foe
Sit down with your friend and tell her you're tired of this one-sided relationship. Explain that you need more out of the relationship and see what she's willing to give. Be prepared, though: Your friend could walk away. If she's not willing to change, you'll have to decide if the friendship's worth keeping.
Bad Bosses
Document everything, including conversations with your boss and actions your boss takes. If you've tried to resolve things, note that, too. Then consult your company's policies and procedures manual and determine your rights. Continue trying to resolve things with your boss, and if nothing changes, bring your case to human resources.
Caustic Co-Workers
Don't jump to assumptions about your co-worker; he or she could be having problems unrelated to work. So approach this person with tact and express concern that you're not working well together. Ask if everything's OK. Meanwhile, document everything. If your co-worker doesn't respond to your approach, go to your supervisor or human resources department and be specific about how this person is affecting your job performance.
Oh Brother
Chat with your sibling in a non-confrontational manner. Gently explain that you're bothered by how the two of you are butting heads and ask if there's a way you can resolve things. If that fails, accept that although you might love your sibling, you don't have to like him or her. Nor are you required to spend time with family. If, for instance, it's holiday time, and your entire family's gathering, politely excuse yourself and if possible, arrange another time to see only family members you enjoy.
in law trouble
Approach your sibling when the spouse isn't around and speak your woes, telling your sibling you're unhappy with how his or her partner's behaving. But be prepared: Your sibling could cut ties with you or decrease how much time you see each other. Another tactic? Approach your sibling's spouse directly and state your case, asking how the two of you can get along better.
Partner Problems
List the pros and cons of being in a relationship with your current partner. Ask yourself what you're getting out of it and where you see it going in five years. Think, too, about how you were before you got involved with this person. Has anything about you changed? If you decide the relationship is worth keeping, tell your partner you're unhappy and suggest counseling. If this relationship is a dead end, as tough as it will be, make steps to terminate it.
Tensions at Home
If you need your roommate to help pay the bills, be up front. Tell her you've got concerns about how the two of you are getting along. Stress, though, that you're not the best roommate in the world either and ask how you can improve, too. If, however, this chat is out of the question or she's not listening, look for a new place to live or politely ask her to move out.

Talking to our Children about what's in the news?

The groups are busy bustling with news of the Pregnant Ohio woman killed by her Police Officer Boyfriend, A Famous wrestler found dead in his Georgia home in an alleged murder suicide,(new reports said he sufficated his wife and son and hung himself) and of course our Troops. So when our kids are asking questions what do you say? How do you explain to your 5 year old son that his "Hero" is dead and it looks like he killed his son and wife. I was speaking to someone in another group about the topic and I was adamant that my children will not idolize or think any celebrity or someone in the spot light is a hero. That soldiers, EMT's, Police officers, Fire fighters are hero's. Then I bit my lip saying a hero killed his pregnant girlfriend. Some hero? Also its a challenge to reinforce into our children that the bible says though shall not kill and our troops are over there killing and being killed. How do we face that challenge? Or just the fact that at times our Troops are faced with killing innocent children. Who are your kids hero's? When you talk about hero's to your kids what do you talk about?
Pro Wrestler Chris Benoit Found dead with his wife and 7 year old son.
